FIQ - Frequently Imagined Questions

There are a lot of new folks around lately, so I thought it was high time I wrote up an FIQ: Frequently Imagined Questions
All the stuff you wanna know, and then some.

A brief rundown of the residents of Toddlerville:
I'm Serendipity, a stay at home mom of two. I'm short, I wear glasses & (when I'm able) I do Bikram Yoga (it's hot).
My Summer Boy is turning 4 in August. He is 3'8" tall & weighs just under 55 lbs. Babycenter tells me he's going to be 6'5" or so. He's a totally normal little boy otherwise, but his size can be overwhelming.
My Winter Girl is 2, and has just shot up like a beanpole. She is very girly, rarely wears anything but skirts/dresses - when I can manage to keep clothes on her. She is rough & tumble tho, perfectly at ease tackling & riding her big bro like a horsey.
Hubs is a superintendent (of our apartment building) & is Irish. Like from Ireland. Although he was born in England. His father was English, his mum is Irish. She & his siblings are all still in Ireland. So like I said, he's Irish.
We live on the Upper East Side in NYC. Just like The Jeffersons, except our apartment isn't in the sky.

I know you've got a page, but Facebook is a temperamental bitch. What other social media do you use?
Excellent question! You can find me :
Twitter: @Serendipity1974 - my FB feed & Instagram are also linked to my Twitter handle, so that is a perfect place to see everything.
Instagram: @motherofserendipity - I don't post all pics through Instagram, but a good number are there.
Pinterest - serendipity1974 - I'm still working on making this my bitch. But I'm getting there.
Tumblr - Serendipity1974 or Mother of Serendipity will hook you up.

Why do you wear Pink on Wednesdays?
This is a totally legit question, but - You can read all about that HERE.

What's up with your #SundaySong?
Honestly, it's because I'm easy like Sunday morning. Or because when I was a singleton I loved Sundays. They were often spent hanging out with my roommate at the kitchen table, nursing hangovers, drinking pots of coffee & listening to music. Usually the song speaks to what's happening in my world or a holiday. Or it's just easy like Sunday Morning.

Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?
My father was in the Coast Guard - so like most military brats we moved around a lot. We were lucky, because we usually only moved every 4 years. But I hated it. I envied the civilian kids who lived in the same house their whole lives. Knew each other from birth. It was hard to ever feel like anything but an outsider, even after being in a place for a few years. It was also hard to believe you wouldn't just have to move again as soon as you put down roots.

All that said - I lived on Governors Island, here in NYC, from 4th through 7th grades. It was amazing. I loved NYC. I loved the small town feeling of the base, as it was the only time we lived "on base". But yet you were right there in the middle of New York. Amazing. It is the only place that ever felt like what I imagined a hometown was. It's now a national/city park. But, since I moved back to NYC, I get to go there every year & I can take my family there and bore them with stories about how it used to be. Which is what I imagine is normal.

If you could get a Sharpie tattoo on your back, what would it be?
Years ago I'd have said this drawing of mine would have been close. But now I'm looking at it and it's looking way more sexual than I remember. Or maybe that's just me.

Who is your favorite stand-up comedian?
I love stand-up comedy. I'm pretty fortunate to have seen Carlin, Mitch Hedberg, Kevin Meany & Jeanine Garofalo. I really enjoy Louis CK. It's a hard question... Basically, I don't like comedy that stems from either bodily functions or hate.

Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing set?
I have a love affair with swing sets. There are few things in this world that feel quite so wonderful as flying through the air on a swing. From the time I was quite young I have also always associated that feeling with flying kites. So I've always sung "Let's Go Fly A Kite" from Mary Poppins whist I swing.
I'm quite proud to say my daughter is starting to pick up that habit.

What's the most delicious food you've ever eaten in your life?
This is tough. I love so many kinds of food. But right this moment I'd say my mother's from scratch Lemon Meringue Pie. Tart & sweet. It was always better the next day cold from the fridge. We only had it twice a year. My birthday & hers. Perfection.

Pirates or ninjas?
Ninja Pirate Fairies. Duh

What kind of smoothie sounds really good right now?
Frozen Strawberry Margarita
What?! I totally think that qualifies.

What eye color do you find sexiest?
These days, ice blue.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
I only remember parts of this cartoon. But the leader of the motorcycle gang & his little sidekick scooter cracked me up! The scooter would say "I told ya, I told ya!" and Chopper would growl "Shut up!". I think it reminded me of my brother & me. No, seriously.

If you had to have a cow or a pig, which would you take? Why?
I would gladly take a pig. I've always wanted a pig. They are smart and adorable.

The latest you've ever slept?
STFU. I'm a mom.

Would you buy a sweater covered in kitten pictures? Would you wear it if someone gave it you for free?
I wouldn't wear it, I'd stuff it in the closet and have guilt about how I couldn't throw it away because it was free.

How far can you throw a baseball?
A little further than I can throw my kids.

City or nature person?
I live in NYC (next to Central Park) and so I get to have both.

If you had to move to another country, where would you move?
Long before I ever went there, and without ever imagining my in-laws would be there, I always wanted to live in Ireland.
When I was in high school I was a terrible insomniac. I used to hypnotize myself to sleep. Part of the hypnosis was imagining yourself in a happy place. The first time I saw the real life place I couldn't believe that my mind had found it's way somewhere I'd never heard of until 20 years later.
As a teenager I imagined my "happy place". As an adult I found it & it was spitting distance from where my husband grew up. True story. The place is Mizen Head, in County Cork.

Do you like horror movies? How about thrillers?
I do! Both! I hardly ever get to watch them of course, because kids. I look forward to the days of watching creepy and suspenseful stuff with my kiddos. But not zombies. I don't do zombies anymore. Well, I never DID a zombie, obviously. Eww.

Would you scratch a crotch itch in public?
Mine or someone else's? Wait, does that change my answer? Are my kids there? Hmmmm.....

Do you swear in front of your parents?
Are you fucking kidding? My father was a sailor, where the hell do you think I learned it from? I'll never forget the first time I swore in front of my Grandmother, though. Like, on purpose & knowing I was old enough she couldn't tell me not to. I felt exhilarated! Like I got away with a great heist or something.

Coolest thing you've ever been for Halloween?
One year I dressed my (comparatively short) boyfriend up as a half pint of milk. I made a moving box into this milk carton and pasted a MISSING poster of our friend who had just moved away on the back. I then dressed up as a "street kitty" - a sort of cat meets hooker costume. So, my costume wasn't cool, but I thought his was really clever.

If you could change your natural hair color, would you?
I've always wished it had more red in it than it does naturally. I used to color it, to varying degrees of attractiveness. I used to perm the hell out of it before that. But at this stage, ya know, I'm just not into it. Maybe I will be when it gets more gray. Right now I like my gray & how it looks in my brown hair. I barely use any product at all. I wash it. Sometimes I condition it.
Maybe I'm just lazy.

What's your most favorite part of your body?
I've always liked my eyes. And the little freckle I have in my cleavage. My wrists are quite lovely, as are my ankles. After that things get tricky. For example, I like my lips, but not my mouth.

What is your favorite expletive?
Are you fucking kidding me? We all know the winner here, right? Let me answer thusly:
I actually own a book about how glorious the word Fuck is.
Seriously.
It's so easily manipulated into other words. Like fuckwit. Which is probably my second favorite.

So, now you know.
